Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum (PPHM) has always been a place where history, education, and community come together. Due to a recent fire marshal report, we are required to temporarily close our doors to meet updated safety standards. Although this decision was beyond our control, we remain committed to finding solutions that prioritize the safety of both the public and our collection.
While we cannot welcome guests into our space at this time, our work does not stop. We are actively adapting our educational programs, exploring pop-up exhibitions, and seeking alternative ways to connect with the community.
We ask for the support of our members, donors, and the entire Panhandle-Plains community as we navigate this transition. Your belief in PPHM is what keeps our history alive, and together, we will ensure its future.
PPHM is the museum itself—the physical space where history is preserved and shared with the public that is owned by WTAMU. PPHS, on the other hand, is the nonprofit organization that supports and oversees the museum’s collection and mission. While closely connected, they serve different roles: PPHM operates as the public-facing institution, while PPHS helps ensure its long-term sustainability through fundraising, membership, and governance.
As we navigate an unexpected chapter in our nearly century-long story, we remain committed to keeping our community informed and connected. This page serves as your trusted source for updates related to the temporary closure of PPHM, including news, ongoing efforts to protect and share our collection, event changes, and educational programming adjustments.
Though our doors are currently closed, our mission continues—and we thank you for standing with us as we adapt, evolve, and keep history alive beyond the walls.
